MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Discussion over the proposed Jimmy Johns located at the Old North Tire site on Grand river Avenue continues as the Township Boards vote on the issue is postponed.
The debate over this Jimmy Johns stems around a drive through window which was requested by the chain sandwich shop, a drive through requires a Special Use Permit which was denied by the Planning Commission.
The property owners appealed the decision to the Township Board and granted the Board an extension to view the modified plan.
Meridian Township's Director of Community Planning and Development Mark Kieselbach, says the Township is now looking at the new plan.
He said, "They have modified the plan, we've just received it so they will not be coming back until March 17th to the board to give us a little better time to look at it."
The concerns over the original Jimmy Johns plan were centered around spacing. The Planning Commission believe the drive thru would be too much of a tight fit with current ordinances and the parking lot.
The new plan reduces the size of the building and makes the drive aisle a one way to reduce the size as well as other reductions meant to meet the concerns that the Board discussed during the public hearing.
