HASLETT - The Haslett seniors stepped onto the hardwood for the last time Friday Feb. 27 in the Vikings' home court. Nine seniors were honored with cheers, roses and hugs from mom and dad.

Both the boys and girls faced off against Owosso, and both hometown heroes came away with a win. Haslett boys defeated the Trojans 58-47, while the Lady Vikings trounced their opponent 55-12.

Haslett girls played incredible defense, only allowing four points of total offense for Owosso in the first half. Physical play on the boards combined with a full court press led to multiple turnovers for the Trojans. At one point, Owosso went 18 straight minutes without a basket. The score at halftime? 34-4 Haslett.

The boys also played well, although not as dominating as their counterparts. While the seniors shone in the pre-game, sophomore point guard Brandon Allen scored 25 points for Haslett, including a streak where Allen made 11 straight Haslett points. Allen was responsible for 14 of the 16 third quarter dimes for the Vikings. Coach Chris Smith saw great defense by Alec Dunkel in his last game at home, and looked ahead towards the incoming playoff run.

"We try to use every game as a building block to move forward to the next one," said Smith. "We still have one more tough game Tuesday at Eaton Rapids. Once we get past that we'll start looking at our district which is at our place, and we'll start getting ready for Sexton two Mondays from now."

The boys move to 14-5 with the win (7-3 CAAC) while the girls stay tied with Dewitt at the top of the conference at 14-4 (9-1 CAAC). Haslett's girls team meets up with Williamston on Monday night to start their tournament run.
