EAST LANSING - It was senior night for the Eastside Stars, but that didn't stop Okemos from spoiling the fun.
The Chiefs cruised to an easy 8-1 victory over Eastside in the last game of the regular season on Feb. 28 at Suburban Ice in East Lansing.
Okemos scored their first goal two and a half minutes into the contest and never looked back. The Chiefs scored two or more goals in each period of play, including three goals in three minutes in the third.
Okemos' eight goals were scored by six different players. Among them was junior forward Anders Staky, who finished the night with a hat trick.
Okemos won both their games against Eastside this season by 7 goals. The Chiefs defeated the Stars 11-4 on Jan. 3.
Okemos Head Coach Bill Sipola said the Feb. 28 contest presented his team with a little more of a challenge than the first. He also said he was pleased with the offensive performance, taking particular note of Staky's hat trick.
"Tonight's game was, we really had to work for our goals and they didn't come easy, and we just had to keep pressing and keep shooting ,and then finally they started to go in," Sipola said. "And so (Staky) did a great job and everyone did."
Junior forward Erich Hairston scored the lone goal for the Eastside Stars.
Okemos finishes the season with a 22-2 overall record and a perfect 11-0 record in CAAC play. The team was presented with their league championship trophy following their win over the Stars.
The Chiefs will play their first playoff game at Chelsea High School on March. 3. Puck drop is slated for 5 pm.
