OKEMOS - Okemos native, Melissa Mitin was in court Thursday to see if she was competent to stand trial.

The 25-year-old is facing murder charges for the death of her child and recently gave birth to another baby, but investigators are unsure of where the child is.

According to Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III, Mitin is competent to stand trial, however, her attorney Frank Reynolds said she still has to undergo mental testing.

Mitin will be analyzed by mental health experts to find out what her state of mind was when police say she killed her baby back in 2013.

Mitin’s attorney said as soon as she goes through psychological testing and the results come back, the court will schedule a pre-trial date.
