JACKSON - The Eastside Stars, handicapped from the very beginning, fell to Jackson United 7-1 Friday night at Optimist Ice Arena in Jackson.
The game was a remake from earlier in the season and, although the game was played in Jackson's backyard, it was scheduled as a home game for the Stars.
It wasn't the only time they felt outmatched.
Without their captain and their leading goal scorer, Eastside couldn't maintain possession in the neutral zone, giving up pucks and falling on their heels early.
"We came out flat in the beginning, especially in the first period," said Assistant Coach Cliff Herold.
The narrative remained consistent throughout the game, as the Stars's head coach was also out for the game. Without the leaders present, Haslett fell behind 3-0 in the first and could never gain momentum.
Their lone goal was scored by Erich Hariston on a breakaway. Harrison took advantage of the opportunity and wiped away the clean sheet for Jackson.
The Vikings's stars of the game included Billy Bosner with three assists, and Charlie Bonser and Andrew Maynard both tallied two goals.
Eastside travels to Holt on Monday for their first CAAC playoff game. They split the season series with the Rams.
