MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - In 2014, the grant application submitted for improvements to Meridian Township parks were not funded. LuAnn Maisner, Meridian Township's Director of Parks and Recreation, says that this is going to change in 2015. This is because of the new park millage approved by voters in August 2014, which has match-money available.
Application for a grant for a new pavilion at North Meridian Road Park is underway. The Harris Nature Center is also hoping to receive a makeover, which would involve tearing down an old pole barn on the property, which is currently being used for storage. The pole barn would be replaced with a new picnic pavilion.
Maisner says that the project is a part of an expansion at the Harris Nature Center.
"There's been a lot of community support, and there's a lot in store. We'll be putting in those grant applications together now, and there will be a public hearing at the next Park Commission meeting," said Maisner.
The third and final project seeking grant approval involves updating the Township's only two tennis courts, located at Hillbrook Park.
Maisner also says the the loyal tennis players of the community will better served by the updated facility.
The grant applications are due on April 1st.
