MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township has a pretty lengthy 2015 to do list. Treasurer Julie Brixie said that after going through the goal setting procedure, a large list of township goals were created.

"We have nine overarching goals and then under them about 150 bullet points," Brixie said.

One of the overarching goals is to sustain and enhance the environment. By doing things such as updating the Township street tree ordinance, changing the bulbs in the Municipal Building's parking lot to LED lights, and encouraging Township staff to conserve energy by turning off the lights in their offices when they walk out of them are a few of the directives aimed at keeping Meridian Township green.

"Those types of conservation things however seemingly small they may seem really add up," Brixie said.

The Township also has many facility improvements planned for 2015 including re-roofing the Meridian Service Center. Some of these projects have already begun.

Director of Public Works and Engineering Ray Severy said, "We have a pedestrian pathway bridge that’s already under construction that should be put in place sometime by the first of April down on Okemos Road crossing the Red Cedar River."

Severy said that’s one of the biggest facility projects going on right now.

He said another big project is the, "replacement of a sanitary sewer lift station, pump station up in the Towar area."

Though a to-do list containing 150 goals may seem daunting, both Severy and Brixie are confident in the Township's ability to complete them.

Brixie said, "the vast majority of these goals that we made will be accomplished."
