LANSING - As many prepare to ring in the new year, local agencies share tips and even services to help everyone celebrate safely this New Year's Eve.

From December 16th though January 1st, officers from police departments, sheriff’s offices and the Michigan State Police will step up drunk driving enforcement across the state as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

There were 27 traffic fatalities during the 2014 Christmas and 2014/2015 New Year’s holidays. Five of the fatal crashes involved alcohol and nine of those killed were not wearing a seat belt.

The Michigan State Police Office of Highway Safety Planning offers these tips for a safe New Year's celebration:

-Designate a sober driver before going out and give that person the keys.
-If you've been drinking, call a taxi, ride the bus or call a sober friend to get you home safely.
-If a friend is about to drive impaired, take his/her keys and make other arrangements to get him/her home safely.

Due to low usage, the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) recently announced the discontinuation of the "Safe Ride Home" service offered in years past for New Year's Eve.

CATA services will conclude early on New Year's Eve. Spec-Tran and Redi-Ride will schedule pick-ups no later than 6:15 pm. CATA will not operate on New Year's Day.
