Michigan Leading Housing Market Highs

LANSING - The Housing Price Index reached new highs in six states in September with Michigan leading the way at 10.3 percent appreciation of total sales compared to last year.

Nationally, home prices are up 5.6 percent year over year as of September.

Locally numbers are also looking positive, information provided by Coldwell Banker shows that the average sold price is up 7 percent in both Okemos and Haslett.

Meridian Township is experiencing gains in the housing market with Haslett in particular being up 34 percent over the third quarter last year.

Leigh Zynda- Henrys realtor for Coldwell Banker Hubbell Briarwood has been working in real estate for 3 years, she began by selling her home during the recession. She now enjoys the favorable housing trends in the Greater Lansing region.

"As of late things have been incredibly busy, this is probably the busiest season i've seen and things are continuing to show improvement in the housing market over all," said Zynda-Henrys.

She believes the market is currently favoring people trying to sell their house

"What were seeing right now is that the market is more of a sellers market, supply is down so were seeing multiple offers on houses again which is very exciting."

While the housing market is recovering it is still ways away from reaching the peaks experienced prior to the 2007 housing market collapse.

Before the crash the median sale price for a house in the U.S. was $200,000. Today the median sale price is $185,000 which is 7.5 percent lower than the high prior to the collapse.
