MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Local Roads Pavement Preservation Program, which began in September of this year, should be well into its second phase according to the initial estimates made by the Meridian Township Public Works & Engineering Department.

However, a few delays due to weather and construction on other roads such as Kinawa Drive, have set the program about three weeks behind schedule according to Raymond Severy, Meridian Township's Director of Public Works & Engineering.

The two part program began with Hot-In-Place recycling where the asphalt is softened and then leveled out. This was done to roads such as Franklin and Banyon-Burcham, but because the second phase has not been started hot-in-place has left some things behind on these roads.

"They haven't started the resurfacing yet, so its about 2-3 weeks behind schedule that resurfacing. But it will get done yet this year so the residents out there that are concerned about the way it looks, that's not the finished product," said Severy.

The second phase of construction will consist of gutter clean up and paving the streets with one inch of new asphalt.

Work will also be done to certain side walks and ramps in order to meet state and national requirements.

The new estimated date for the pavement preservation to be finished is around November 15th.
