MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Monday, October 27th the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing for the rezoning of the property on 2150 Clinton Street.
The property is home of the old Central Fire Station which was built in the 1960's. The fire station was closed in February of this year due to the bad condition of the building.
The property is currently zoned as a single family residential designation and will be potentially be rezoned to commercial designation
The Planning Commission hearing is just the first of many steps that go into rezoning and the Township's overall plan for the property according to Peter Menser, Associate Planner for Meridian Township
"What will happen is the Planning Commission will have this public hearing and this time in two weeks at the next meeting in November the Planning Commission will probably make a recommendation to the Township Board. From there the Township Board will hold their own public hearing and another meeting after that they'll make their formal decision," Menser said.
The old fire station and the MARC which is located next to it are both owned by the Township. The rezoning could result in the future sale of both properties but there are currently no decisions made on a specific project or what will be done with the properties.
The public hearing will take place at 6 pm during the Planning Commission meeting in the Township Hall located inside the Municipal Building.
