MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Composting is nature's process of recycling decomposed organic materials into a rich soil known as compost. It's best to use "green" and "brown" materials.
Green materials are high in nitrogen and some examples are grass clippings, coffee grounds and manure. Brown materials are high in carbon and some examples include leaves, shredded newspapers and straw.
Finished compost looks like soil, dark brown, crumbly and smells like a forest floor.
