INGHAM COUNTY - The League of Women Voters is a national non-partisan organization dedicated to raising awareness and spreading information on voting and political candidates across the country. Co-presidents of the Lansing branch, Beth Moore and Camilla Davis, participate in events around the community and hold candidate forums to gather information and distribute a voter guide for residents
“Our focus, especially this time of year, is on the voting and the citizen participation in elections. But the League is a broadly focused organization in that we care about the issues that are being debated at all levels of government,” said Moore.
The Lansing League also works with the national branch on projects regarding Public Advocacy and Voter Protection.
“We’re looking for ways that we can help voters,” Davis said. “Are there things people need to know when they come to vote, are there things about the polls that maybe we could pass onto the clerks that would make it a better experience for voters.”
The Lansing League of Women Voters is open to people of all ages, genders and political views.
“We are a political organization, but if people don’t want to be involved in partisan politics, but they want to support voting, I think we’re a wonderful place,” Davis said.
Members can choose to be as involved as they please, with jobs ranging from distributing information to just being proud sponsors.
