UPDATE: LANSING - The Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Training Center celebrated their 20th anniversary this fall. Staff Sergeant Ruel Taylor is of the US Air Force service members.

"I think the best part about today is seeing all the different agencies come together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this Hazmat training center," said Taylor.

The training center has a rail yard, where responders are involved with simulation aids like highway tank trailers, rail trains, storage tanks, confined space and more.

Training aids come from actual trailers and rails pieces that have been wrecked in the past.

Today was a milestone for our center. It was built in 1991 to train first responders and private sector people that have to deal with Hazardous material, Sergeant Therese Cermonte said.

Weapons of mass destruction awareness, hazardous materials response, radiological emergency, incident command system and radiological emergency preparedness are some courses the training center offers.

"As part of the 51st, we train here, work with the state police so we are here representing and celebrating at the same time," Survey Team Chief Chad Francisco said. "Rail cars and the tankers, it's a great experience to see."

Demonstrations of decomp was a highlight at the event. The suits need three pairs of gloves, facemasks, an oxygen tank and more.
