MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Environmental Commission met October 1st to discuss a few environmental initiatives happening in Meridian Township.
The meeting began with a presentation from Commissioner Chair Ned Jackson. Jackson spoke about Green Chemistry and emphasized the importance of the community investing in non- motorized transport such as biking.
Comissioner John Sherbarth was named the new Vice Chair replacing Jeralyn Moran.
The Commission also discussed the replacing and replanting of street trees in Meridian Township.
Jackson said that while it is the responsibility of the residents to replace any missing or damaged trees the board is discussing ways to facilitate the replanting process.
"We actually assigned a couple of people to contact nurseries and investigate how they would feel about making it more accessible for citizens to acquire the trees that they need," said Jackson.
The Board will continue their discussion at the next Environmental Commission meeting in November.
