MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township celebrated its 172nd year at the Meridian Heritage Festival on September 20th.
The festival organized by the Friends of Historic Meridian featured activities for the entire family to enjoy.
"We're here in the Historical Village just across the way from the Farmers' Market and we've got lots of great demonstrations and activities and music here today," said event volunteer Teri Banas.
The yearly event is put on not only so residents of Meridian Township can get out and have some family fun, but also to teach about the history of Meridian Township.
"Many buildings that have been moved here are authentic and we have a farm house, a barn, a tollgate house, a general store, a house that was moved here and we have a church that was built here. So we're just having things that children enjoyed back in the 1800s," said event volunteer Margret Burkhart.
"We've been having so much fun, we had a great pony ride, and the boys have just been having a ton of fun so we are really enjoying our time," said local resident Darla Gamache.
If residents wanted to take a break from the festival there was a food court area where residents could buy from vendors and look around the Meridian Arts & Crafts Marketplace.
