OKEMOS - The Homecoming Game couldn’t have started better for Okemos as they recovered a Grand Ledge fumble on the opening kick off, but the end result was not so much in their favor.
After a great defensive performance Grand Ledge and a few missed opportunities by Okemos, the Comets walked away with a victory over the Chiefs.
After failing to convert on 3rd and 15 the Chiefs were forced to punt, and Grand Ledge produced their first scoring drive.
With 8:45 left in the first quarter Grand Ledge lead the Chiefs 7-0.
The second quarter only got worse for the Chiefs as Grand Ledge capitalized on field goal opportunity and added a 62-yard touchdown reception giving them the 17-0 lead at the half.
Okemos scored their only touchdown with 2:58 left in the third quarter on a 19 yard pass from Grant Klaver to Kyle Krumm.
Okemos had two red zone opportunities in the 4th quarter both ending in turnovers on downs.
Grand ledge added a field goal for a final score of 20-7.
Despite the loss, Okemos Head coach Jack Wallace does not believe this puts a damper on his teams season.
"These are great kids with great character I think we'll be fine," Wallace said. "We'll come back out, we'll regroup and get ready for our next game."
