HASLETT - Students will be able to enjoy Haslett High School's Performance Arts Center in a way not experienced before. After opening in 1992, voters approved a Building and Site Sinking Fund Millage to procure the costs for the renovations.
The price tag for the renovated PAC comes in at $3 million. The project, over-sighted by TMP and Clark Construction comes in three phases. Workers plan to start the first leg of the project by Spring of 2015.
The phases are as follows:
Phase I (Spring) - Adding building exterior to expand storage areas, two new dressing rooms, with upgrades to the all of the functioning systems (i.e. heating, cooling, etc.)
Phase II (TBD) - Improvements to the stage area, sound and lighting equipment, and seating.
Phase III (TBD) - The wrap up; with final touches to paint and carpet.
"It's an area here within the high school that is being used very consistently and very frequently, we have thousands of community members, students, parents," said Principal Bart Wegenke.
"Well we are remarkably excited about what is happening here. We are expanding and for the first time we are going to have a proper scene shop for students to build scenery in," said Auditorium Manager Pat Hepfer.
Although the project has run into the millions, certain equipment costs are not able to be covered by the Building and Site Sinking Fund Millage. The projected $250,000 tag on equipment is being raised by the Foundation of Haslett Schools and boosters for Band and Choir.
The entire renovations should be complete by 2017-2018.
