MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the passing of the Meridian Township Park Millage renewal increase on August 5th, Meridian Township parks are in for some improvements.
However, before looking ahead to future projects there are still a few ongoing projects that the Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Department hopes to finish up by the end of this year.
One of those projects include improving the entrance drive at Legg Park.
“We’re making improvements to the entry drive, just for maybe 200 feet up to the gate and we’re improving the entrance off of Van Atta Road, we’re paving that,” said LuAnn Maisner, Meridian Township's Director of Parks and Recreation.
Another ongoing project is installing a parking lot at Newton Road Park. That park will also be going through more updates in the near future.
“It’s approximately a five acre parcel that we have leveled, grated, seeded. It’s a flat turf area, basically it’s going to serve as a practice facility for youth soccer, youth football, and youth lacrosse. But before we can allow anyone to use it we need a parking lot,” said Maisner.
The final project planned this year will involve Wonch Park being closed for a few days.
“The project will actually start September 15th and the park will be closed for a few days. We’ll be paving a nice looped trail all around the park,” Maisner added.
The new park millage will fund improvements for a few new projects including major work at Towner and Wonch Parks along with general maintenance such as fixing parking lots, trails, and bridges throughout all parks in the Township.
The planning for all future projects will be on going throughout the rest of this year to make sure they are ready to go once the new millage begins on January 1st, 2015.
