MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On August 5th, the National Association of Town Watch's "National Night Out" will be held in communities across the nation, as well as Meridian Township.
The neighborhood events can include block parties, as well as games and activities for children. The goal of the event is to help bring communities together and familiarize them with neighbors and law enforcement officers.
"We just want to connect with folks and let them know that, you know, we're a local police department and we want to keep a good relationship with the citizens in Meridian Township, and make ourselves available to, not only respond to crime, but try and solve other neighborhood problems," said Lieutenant Greg Frenger, Meridian Township Police Department.
According to the association's website, the first National Night Out was held in August of 1984.
