MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This year's mid-point numbers for residential and commercial building in Meridian Township have been released and there has been $27 million worth of economic activity in Meridian Township.
This includes residential and commercial building so far this year. The $27 million is the total construction value, which includes building additions on a home, building new homes or businesses, and interior or exterior renovations in the Township.
Eight new homes have been built in Meridian Township this year in comparison with the 13 homes built last year.
"The average resident probably is not too excited about construction value and numbers, but it’s definitely a sign that things are going well here, that it’s a good place to invest both your money and your time," said Peter Menser, Meridian Township Associate Planner.
While a good number of new homes have been built, there has been only one commercial building completed this year. After 30 years in Haslett, the Redi Care moved to Grand River Avenue in Okemos back in March 2014.
The long winter pushed back construction and commercial projects didn't start coming in until April and early May.
The Meridian Township Department of Community Planning & Development is expecting to have them completed by the end of this year. They are also expecting these numbers to stay steady for the second half of this year.
