MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - An Omaha-based department store is planning to set up shop in Meridian Mall.
Gordman's plans to use some of the space that is currently under construction in the JC Penney Wing.
The discount department store sells men's and women's clothing and is primarily geared toward younger customers.
Meridian Township Associate Planner Peter Menser praised the mall for continuing to attract new tenants despite the failure of several malls in the country.
"It's really amazing how this mall is thriving, and, if you're at all aware of, kind of, the national model, the big indoor malls are not thriving. A lot of them are closing," Menser said.
According to the company website, Gordman's has stores in 20 states, including three currently in Michigan.
