LANSING - While most people will be enjoying the upcoming long weekend, police officers will be putting in over time.
Officers around the state will be cracking down on drunk driving this holiday.
For the next two weeks extra officers will be patrolling Michigan roads in 26 different counties.
"We're gonna have an extended presence out there during this holiday weekend," said Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth. "Between the state police and local law enforcement there's going to be more officers on patrol. So we want you to be responsible so you and everyone else can get home alive."
Officers are specially trained in sobriety testing and completed 24 hours of lecture and hands on instruction to detect impaired driving.
Any one caught while driving under the influence will be taken to jail.
Officers said if you are going to consume alcohol organize a designated driver or arrange for a cab.
During last year's crackdown 115 drivers were arrested.
