MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Each week the Meridian Township Farmers' Market is filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, meats, seafood, and now, perhaps even alcoholic beverages.
Last August a state law gave winemakers the opportunity to sell wine at Michigan farmers markets.
While a pending state bill has micro-brewers waiting to see if they, too, can join in on the fun.
Although the Meridian Farmers' Market has yet to participate in alcohol sales, some say this new law could benefit the market by giving farmers an additional source of revenue.
"The more people we get here, that's more people that see my product that maybe normally wouldn't have saw it, so I think it's a good thing," said Gayelord Mankowski, Owner of 45th Paralell Pickles.
Meridian Farmers' Market Manager, Christine Miller, agreed by saying, "I think the beer and wine sales at farmers market's could enhance [the market], we have a lot of different people who like to try different recipes that may call for different beers or wines mixed in with it."
While many agree that alcohol sales could boost market profits, public reports show that some remain concerned on the increasing alcohol accessibility.
