EAST LANSING - Lansing United played host to FC Buffalo. Losers of three straight, FC Buffalo, headed into the day 3-5-1 on the season, but in the first half one saw team determined to save its season.
Constantly on the attack, Buffalo got into Lansing United's Zone early and often. Yet, at halftime both teams showed zeroes on the scoreboard. Buffalo could not capitalize on scoring chances, and in the second half, Lansing United would get a few chances of their own.
"At halftime we essentially talked about ways we could expose the opponent, and I thought the guys implemented those schemes very well to start the second half," Lansing United Head Coach Eric Rudland said.
"Matt Brown [had] two fantastic goals. We also brought on Tim Kreutz who I thought performed very well for us. So, I thought those two changes at halftime gave us the advantage for the first 20- 25 minutes of the second half."
After Brown's two goals, the crowd chanted his name
"He (Brown) has done well in all of our home games and [is] a bit of a fan favorite," Rudland said. "If he gets chances, he puts them away, and that’s what he did today," said Matt Brown, Lansing United Senior.
Right place, right time.
His second would be enough to
improve Lansing United's overall record to 5-2-3 as the team went on to win, 2-1, over FC Buffalo.
United has four games left in its inaugural regular season. The team hosts its next game on the Fourth of July at 7pm against the Cincinnati Saints. United has lost only once in its last seven games, falling to the Saints, 3-2, on June 6, 2014.
