MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Residents of Meridian Township had the opportunity to view the site plans for the new fire station on Wednesday.

The new station will be at the corner of Okemos Road and Central Park Drive. Meridian Township's Department of Community Planning and Development has 30 days to approve the site plans.

If the site plan is approved, residents who are unhappy with the decision have a chance to appeal for changes to details of the plan What they cannot appeal, however, is the use of the site for the fire station itself.

"That was decided by the Township Board, so, again, it's not the use of the site as a fire station, it's the technical standards," said Mark Kieselbach, Director of Community Planning and Development. "(Meaning) that it doesn't meet setbacks, there's not enough parking, there's not enough landscaping. something specific to the ordinance."

Kieselbach also said that he does not see himself denying the site plans all together, because, if he did, that process would have to start from scratch.
