MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A public hearing was held at the Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the possible rezoning of property in Meridian Township.
Boomer Group, LLC wants to turn the vacant land on the corner of Jolly Oak Road and Water Lilly Way into an all-suites hotel. The three-and-a-half acre property is currently zoned for professional offices, but David Pierson, attorney for the developers, hopes that will soon be changed to commercial.
"The Township Board re-zoned it to (professional) office back in 1989, and, really, the Planning Commission simply put it in an office category for future land use," Pierson said. "No one really suggested there would be any other use for it."
Pierson said at the public hearing that only two and half acres of the property would be used for the hotel, which, if approved, would be intended for business travelers. The developers are scheduled to appear in front of the Planning Commission again in two weeks for approval of the Special Use Permit.
