INGHAM COUNTY - Ingham County has figured out a way to keep the streets clean as well as keep first time and minor offenders from serving jail time.

The program set into place is referred to as the D.A.R.T or Dead Animal Recovery Team. The D.A.R.T program was established in the spring of 2012 by Sheriff Gene L. Wrigglesworth of the Ingham County Sheriff's office.

The team works to retrieve any deceased animals that may be found along side the county's roads. Made up of two minor or first time offenders and a volunteer deputy, the team goes out every Saturday morning from March until August to keep the county's roads clean.

Referring to the sentenced individuals, Lieutenant Dennis Hull of the Ingham County Sheriff's Office said, "They figure the option of working one day at a less desirable job to keep them from going to jail for any period of time is worth it."

D.A.R.T will retrieve any dead animal that is found on the road. They do not patrol the county's free ways or busy m roads. If you would like to file a report of a dead animal siting please call 517-676-8220 and leave your name, the location, and the type of animal.
