MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Thunderstorm season is upon us and with thunderstorms comes the threat of lightning.

Lightning is dangerous and it is important to take the precautions necessary to protect yourself. The best thing you can do in the event of a thunderstorm is to avoid it all together. This means get indoors immediately.

A substantial building or hard topped vehicle will do just fine. Once inside avoid using electronics and appliances that are plugged into wall outlets. If you are able, unplug your electronics and appliances before the storm hits. Never unplug anything during a storm. Avoid doing things that would involve running water. This means no showering or washing of your hands, dishes, or clothes. Keep away from doors and windows.
