MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Planning Commission discussed plans regarding Adult Day Care Centers. There are still some issues regarding exactly what an Adult Day Care Center means.
Commissioner John Scott-Craig elaborated on this issue when he said, "It's not an adult care center, that could be 24-7. It's an Adult Day Care Center. It's a Child Day Care Center. It tells what it is. I think it makes absolute sense to keep the word "day" in all of those definitions."
There are still issues regarding where Day Care Centers are allowed to reside. In August 2013, the Planning Commission sent a recommendation to the Meridian Township Board to further make it possible for the Adult Day Care Center (located on Bennett Road at the New Life International Church) to be in a residential zone. Township zoning rules dictate that Care Centers like the one proposed are only allowed in public zones and not residential zones.
Planning Commission Chair Patricia Jackson does recommend the applicants of the Adult Day Care Center attend the next Planning Commission meeting when their issue will be on the agenda.
