LANSING - About 100 people gathered in front of the Capitol Building on Wednesday, May 14, holding signs and rallying to push through HB 4774, to regulate gun purchasing laws.

If passed, the house bill will regulate and license the selling, purchasing, possessing, and carrying of particular firearms. There will also be mandatory background checks given, as well as the gun owner to provide authorization to be able to carry a firearm.

Kathy Frank, one of the women advocating, is part of the campaign "Million Mom March", which also serves as campaign to protect against gun violence. She says she has been doing this for 14 years. For her, gun violence is a personal issue.

"We're here for sensible gun laws and to make America safer and Michigan safer," Frank said. "I've been here 14 years and I'm not stopping."

Frank also stated the importance of gun information and says she feels this is an important issue that needs to be addressed in the State of Michigan and America.

"Theres so much education and sensible gun laws that need to take place to reduce gun violence in America," she said.

It will be in the hands of the Michigan Legislature however, if this house bill will become law. If passed, this bill does not however, affect the rights given by the Second Amendment.
