• There were many different stations at the recycling event. Recyclers were directed by volunteers.

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Walt Linkse is an Okemos resident who volunteered his time at the electronic and paper shredding station at this year's event.

"Well it's important because we really need to get the materials into the proper hands, who really know how to handle it. And just throwing it away is not a good idea," said Linske.

The event was held at Nancy Moore Park in Okemos from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. People drove through different recycle stations and volunteers would help unload their recyclables.

"Besides a little traffic back up on Okemos road, its a big attendance," said Meridian Townships Recycle Coordinator LeRoy Harvey.

Recyclers could bring in all kinds of items such as glass, electronics. styrofoam and even books.

"We'll get close to, I'm guessing, a thousand visitors today," said Harvey.

People were driving up as early as 8:00 am to recycle. Everything from televisions to packing peanuts were brought to be reused.

"It’s going to produce tons and tons of things that aren't going into landfills that will be recycled," said Barbara Reeves, event coordinator. "So I am very pleased."

It took a coordinator, a special event committee, and about a hundred volunteers to make the Reuse-Recycle-Disposal event as success.

The Reuse -Recycle- disposal event has been going on annually for five years. This year, they had a total of approximately 1,500 recyclers.
