EAST LANSING - It all started 5 years ago with his in-laws.
"My father-in-law had a slip and fall in the bathtub and it wasn't the lack of money, it was the lack of knowledge," Sam Tucker said.
Sam Tucker said that had he had a grab bar or other modifications, he could have avoided going to the hospital and his later downward spiral.
"Through that and then taking care of my mother-in-law and now taking care of my mom and dad, we are really passionate about doing this type of business and helping people stay in their own home," Tucker said.
According to Tucker, about 95 percent of the population wants to remain living in their home as they age, so Tucker and his wife started Home Management Company.
"One division we do is handicap management construction and the middle section is we do handicap modifications to homes," Tucker said.
But they don't stop there.
"We do the property side of it from lawn care, snow removal, windows, we change light bulbs, we reupholster furniture, we just do a variety of things that you would question yourself 'Now who would i call to get this taken care of?'" Tucker said.
This is not a decision that can wait
"You don't put your safety belt on after you have an accident do you?" Tucker said. "You do it before and it's the same with your home."
Aside from the comfort of your own home, it could be financially beneficial as well.
"The cost to do the home modifications is insignificant compared to having to go to a assisted living facility," Tucker said.
