MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Thursday, March 13th, Meridian Township held a blood drive in the Township Municipal Building. The event had 25 people sign up and more drop in. Jodie Miller, a registered nurse for the American Red Cross, said that she expected about 35 pints of blood.
Blood drives are especially important in the winter, because more of them are cancelled due to bad weather and less people show up. Miller said, "This particular winter is a really important winter. We've had a lot of blood drives cancel because of weather. Winter time is also a big time for high school and college blood drives, so in turn when the high schools cancel, our blood drives will also cancel."
Each person donates one pint of blood, which can help three people. The Township holds a blood drive every 56 days.
