MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the March 11th Park Commission meeting, a motion was passed unanimously to allow a grant request of $187,500 from the State and a local match of $62,500 to improve Wonch Park.
The improvements include building a new pavilion and adding four trees, two grills and three picnic tables.
Parks and Land Management Coordinator, Jane Greenway, said "This pavilion will provide great shelter for the paddlers on the river during rainy days when they're out there, also this is one of the most highly rented pavilions in our whole system."
The Commission also voted to put forward $8,000 in cash or in-kind donation to help fund the construction of a Nature Exploration Area at the Harris Nature Center. This will be a large, natural play area. The project could begin in about a year if everything goes as planned.
