MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Thursday, February 27th, Meridian Township hosted an Affordable Care Act event to help assist residents in enrolling for health insurance.
Representatives from the Ingham County Health Department were present to explain the act, also known as Obamacare and to answer any questions that people had. Residents were also offered assistance in enrolling at the event.
"I inform them about the affordable care act and debunk some of the myths and I give them the knowledge that I have on the Healthy Michigan Plan as well as what they need to know about the Marketplace," said Ebony Matiere, Community Health Worker from the Ingham County Health Department.
According to the U.S. Census, approximately 3,700 Meridian Township residents do not have health insurance.
The Marketplace's open enrollment will end on March 31st and will not re-open until November 15th. Those who do not have health insurance coverage by the deadline may face penalties.
