MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the dangerously cold temperatures that we have been experiencing, people who work outdoors are put at higher risk.
"If you don't have to go outside in the extreme weather don't," advised Meridian Township Fire Inspector Tavis Millerov. He also said to "always dress in layers, loose clothing, loose fitting layers along with having as much of your skin covered as possible."
People who work outdoors do not have this luxury. They are advised to wear many layers, take frequent breaks, cover exposed skin, and to limit their amount of physical activity. Kroger employee Yahya Imran told us that instead of going inside every hour, in the extreme cold he would go inside every ten minutes. He said that they wear "gloves, hats, scarfs and just do not show any skin whatsoever so we don't get frostbite."
Working outdoors in the extreme cold is extra taxing on the body so it is important to slow down and take your time. If your job takes you outdoors for extended periods of time, remember these tips and stay safe.
