MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With temperatures hovering below zero heating bills have skyrocketed leaving many residents wondering how they can lower their energy costs.
Terry DeDoes, Director of Public Information at Consumers Energy says there are multiple avenues to decrease your utility bill.
"There are steps you can take to save energy that cost little or nothing," he says. "If your going to be at work all day, set back your thermostat about ten degrees, you save about one to three percent (on your bill) every degree you dial back."
While on the topic of energy, he also mentioned that Consumers Energy has assistance programs for those who qualify, most notably the C.A.R.E Program.
"The C.A.R.E Program is partnered with the State of Michigan to help income qualified customers receive a reduction on their bill," he exclaimed."
Residents who are interested in the C.A.R.E program have until the end of February to enroll. Space is limited no more the 12,000 state residents can be accepted.
For anyone interested in any of Consumers Energy programs a representative can be reached by phone at 1-800-477-5050.
