OKEMOS - After going under construction in mid-September, many gathered together at the Okemos Library this week for it's grand re-opening. A ribbon cutting was held to celebrate the completion of the most recently renovated library and recognize all of the sponsors who were involved in making this possible.
A successful fundraiser that was held in 2013 to improve the library lead to more than $125,000 in public donations being made. Additionally, another $200,000 was raised to match the amount that was given from Meridian Township.
Among the major donors that includes the Friends of the Okemos Library, Delta Dental, and Haslett and Okemos Rotary, the community came together as a whole and brought in masses of smaller donations that helped the Library renovations.
“It’s been a wonderful process going out to the community and seeing how they have supported us, not only with their dollars but their time and talent to get this project going,” says Betsy Hull, head librarian of Okemos Library. “I’m very happy with how things have turned out.”
Many of the renovations include a new heating and cooling system, newly furnished restrooms, a quiet reading room for adults, an improved computer area, a larger children section and play area, and also an area that encompasses world languages.
