MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The holiday season is a break for some people, while others had to work around the clock to help out after the ice storm in December and snow storm in January.
Consumers Energy and the Lansing Board of Water and Light worked to help restore power to homes in Meridian Township. Some customers were out of power for more than ten days.
Township officials contacted both Consumers Energy and Lansing Board of Water and Light requesting power outage information from the recent storms to better prepare for future emergencies.
At the January 21 Township Board meeting, Raymond Severy, Director of Public Works and Engineering gave a report about the current information the two companies have provided.
"One thing we don't have yet is a very clear map that shows the service area for the two agencies," said Severy. "I got a map from the Board of Water and Light and took a look at it and had some questions about it, so they are going to do some more research and try to get us a good, accurate map about what their service area is and hopefully that will coincide with the Consumers service area when we get theirs."
The Board of Water and Light reported that it has 831 customers in Meridian, including residential, commercial and industrial. They are currently looking into the history of power outages in their service areas.
Township officials have scheduled a meeting on Monday, January 27 with Consumers Energy about the number of people it services in Meridian Township and a history of the power outages. However, this meeting is not open to the public.
The power outage report was requested by the Township Board so there will be another update at the next board meeting on Tuesday, February 4.
