Issues

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The recent extreme weather patterns have not only been hard on residents energy bills, but on car repair bills as well.

Local repair center Woods Okemos Marathon report excessive incidents requiring tow trucks and customers with flat tires and rim damage.

Manager Chris Parrish said, “A lot of people were getting stuck in their driveways, I mean there was a lot of snow a lot of cars, you know, that don’t have the ground clearance to go through the snow, and then in the recent Ice storm made the road icy, very dangerous to drive on.”

The excessive temperature change also leads to repeated freezing and thawing of water on roads, which leads to bumpy roads and often, the dreaded potholes which can cause front end damage to vehicles.

The Michigan Department of Transportation released information regarding reporting potholes - "those reporting pothole locations are asked to provide the route name (M, I or US designation), the county, the nearest community, and the closest cross street or interchange. Potholes on non-state roads should be reported to local road commissions since MDOT does not have jurisdiction over roads that are not part of the state system."
