MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The location of the proposed new fire station in Meridian Township is still undecided.

The Special Use Permit for the new fire station that would replace the old Central Fire Station was before the Planning Commission once again on Monday, Jan. 13. The Commission was fairly split on the issue with a vote of 5-4 against the new location on Central Park Drive. Members of the community came out to the meeting to voice their opinion on the proposed location.

"My husband keeps very easily being disturbed by noise," said Susan Simpkin, a resident of the Autumn Park condominiums. "He spends half his waking hours in the middle of the night and it's kind of exhausting and if we've got things going off now to get him going for 4 or 5 hours, we're just gonna have to move out and we are gonna lose more money if we move out, and our poor children are going to end up living with us."

Residents of Autumn Park Condominiums are not opposed to the idea of a new fire station, they are just concerned about the the location and the issues it might cause in their lives.

Township voters approved a 3.5 million dollar millage for the new station in November 2012.

The Township Board is expected to take action on the new fire station at their February 4th meeting.
