MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township officials are facilitating a curbside pick-up program of fallen branches to assist residents with storm damage debris as a result of the recent ice storm. Collection will begin in January and may take several weeks to complete.

Residents are asked to place brush between the sidewalk and the road for pick-up. Please cut branches to 4 foot lengths.

If using a chain saw, read your operator’s manual before using the saw for the first time. Avoid the danger of “kickback” by using a chain saw equipped with an anti-kickback device mounted on the tip of the guide bar. Do not cut from a ladder, let professionals do it. Cutting from above chest height makes controlling the kickback more difficult. Never operate a chain saw when fatigued, under medication, or have been drinking.

“Meridian Township is working hard to assist residents in anything they need during this crisis. Although clean up may take weeks, we want to assure our residents that we care and this opportunity is available,” said Raymond Severy, Director of Public Works & Engineering.

Smaller branches and limbs can also be dropped off at the Christmas Tree Recycling sites at Wonch Park (4555 Okemos Road) and Nancy Moore Park (2100 Gaylord C. Smith Court) until the end of January.
