MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Senior Center is more than just a place to do jazzercise or bingo. It is a home away from home for more than 575 members
"I just think it's a good place for people to hang out," said Rebecca Armstrong, who has been a member since 2010. "Sometimes if I'm going somewhere between my class and my other event I'll just stay here and read or eat lunch here it's just comfortable, it's a nice place."
When the center opened in 1995, they received donations to get them up and running, and now with the help of the 2012 millage, the center has the opportunity to update some parts of the building.
"We had new carpet put in in 2012 and some painting done in 2012," said Cherie Wisdom, the coordinator for the Senior Center.
However, the Senior Center didn't stop there. Their goal is to make the center feel more at home and a comfortable place to hang out.
"Oh, it's been amazing, I've really enjoyed it," said Armstrong. "Everyday I come in and something different would be changed and I like it a lot. I think it's very updated and just very welcoming."
The Senior Center has new furniture, new lighting fixtures and moved the library for more convenience.
"I think the overwhelming consensus is that people are really liking it and like the new look," said Wisdom. "I'm seeing more and more people staying after their activities and enjoying a cup of coffee and chatting with friends."
Now while they are having that cup of coffee, the senior citizens can look around and appreciate all of the work that's been put in over the past year.
