MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - After a recent storm, a number of trees were knocked down near Ferguson Park. There is a small piece of property, between Okemos Road and the park, that is currently owned by the county. Meridian Township looked to to the county to have the trees removed and it sparked the issue of transferring the deed of the property.
"We all kind of realized this is in Meridian Township and maybe we should have it properly transferred because we have been maintaining it this whole time," said Meridian Township's Parks and Land Management Coordinator, Jane Greenway. "So it's really kind of a no big deal type of issue it's just something to make our records clear."
Ferguson Park has been owned by the township since the 1970s and it's about time for the area near the park to be owned by the township as well. The transfer cannot take place overnight, it is a long process that has to be approved by the county and then it can be finalized.
