EAST LANSING, MI - The Purdue Boilermakers traveled to East Lansing on Saturday, looking for their first win in conference play, while the Spartans eyed a 6-1 start.
MSU didn't generate much in the way of offense until Denicos Allen returned this fumble for a 45 yard touchdown return, in the second quarter.
The Spartans did not score again until they converted on a trick play in the fourth, but their defense was the story as they shutout Purdue for the 14-0 win.
"You know I thought our defense really handled the adversity that was put forth to them," Coach Mark Dantonio said after the game. "They had some sudden change situations thrown at them numerous times, they also gave up some big plays that put them in those situations again, but they kept responding."
When asked about the lack of offense, Dantonio stressed that wins are all that maters.
"Well, we won the football game and I'll never apologize for winning," Dantonio said.
Dantonio also explained that at the end of the day he is happy with the progress his team has made since last season.
"We're six and one, and we're bowl eligible," he continued. "And that was the goal going into this game. It took us until the last game, last year because of the close losses we had, so now we start climbing the ladder. W have an opportunity to go to Illinois next week and to further that.
