MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A special use permit is pending for the location of the new Central Fire Station on the corner of Okemos Road and Central Park Drive.

Residents have expressed some concerns about the fire station location local homeowners has appealed the Planning Commission's decision to grant the Special Use Permit. On the October 15th the process of the appeal will be talked about among board members. They will discuss their bases of their decision as well.

“Its kind of a touchy issue, especially for the residents that live there. A lot of people are concerned about the problems it may cause for them., but we listened very carefully to everything that was said, and we tried to make a decision that was fair and in corners with the law," said Planning Commissioner Dante Ianni.

It is possible that the Township Board will make a decision about the appeal at their meeting, but the process may take a while.

Residents can voice their opinions about the new fire station at the meeting.
