MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Okemos Soccer opened up the 2013 CAAC Cup against Jackson Lumen Christi, Thursday.
The Chieftans started early with a goal just three minutes in, and quickly added another.
Okemos dominated possession for most of the game, winning 3-1, but head coach Brian Guggemos wasn't satisfied by the number of scoring opportunities his team created.
"We didn't really have that many chances, to be honest with you," Guggemos said. "Yeah, we had the ball quite a bit, but at some point you have to have possession that's dangerous, and we didn't really have that. Our effort wasn't that great, our focus wasn't that great and when you kind of go through the motions, you think it's going to be easy on the final third. It's the hardest part of the field, and if we go through the motions against a team, it's going to be hard to score".
Moving onto the second round of the Tournament, Guggemos sees room for improvement.
"We have to have better focus when we come out and play," he said. "I was a little disappointed with that, and i'll take the blame for that. I didn't get them prepared. That's probably the number one thing. It's getting them ready to play. A little more effort and focus. It's going to be the number one thing"
