MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Its that time of the year again when local businesses need additional help for the upcoming holiday season.
"We need them because during the holidays we have an increased workload, due to demands for the holiday season so we bring on new employees to help us work that load," said Lauren Williams, Human Resources for Target.
Holiday shopping is the most important time of the year for retailers, and over the holidays businesses have 30-40 percent increase in sales.
Leaves have just begun to fall, but businesses in the local area are beginning to hire seasonal employees.
According to the Michigan Retailers Association its projected that this season is going to be a good one.
Senior Vice President of Michigan Retailers Associations says most customers like seeing seasonal items displayed earlier and earlier so retailers keep pushing the date back to satisfy their customers.
"Among the group who are going to increase the hiring, that has the largest figure we had in more than 10 years," said Senior Vice President of MRA, Tom Scott. "So there is pretty strong optimism out there, and I don't think anyone is expecting a gangbusters holidays season, but I think everyone is expecting some pretty good growth."
Michigan is expected to hire 20-25 thousand new seasonal employees.
