MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Cherie Wisdom, Meridian Senior Center Coordinator, explains the details from the Center's annual open house.
"Today was the fall open house. Its something we do annually and the goal of the open house is to highlight a lot of the events and activities that the Senior Center is going to be offering or does offer. As well as let our members in the community know about the many different businesses and organizations out in the community that offer services to older adults."
"Our membership to date is 781, up about 181 from this time last year. So we have seen a increase in membership. Our membership is also starting to look a little younger than it has in the past. We are trying to get the new faces in with a lot of new programning, a little change in the hours, the updating throughout the Senior Center."
"We are trying to bring in different programs and activities that will attract different people not everyone is interested in the same thing. Some people are looking for fitness and wellness, other people might be looking for games, other people might be looking for learning for fun. So we are trying to incorporate all of these different options."
"We are an active Senior Center with active members. This isn't the next step to the senior home. I think sometimes that might be a stereotype. We are a very active community Senior Center and I would encourage them to come, look at our website, check out our newsletter on meridian.mi.us, check out our Facebook page or just stop in and visit us and see whats going on any given day."
